Parts Being Installed and Warnings
- Fuel hose and hose clamps
- Fuel line quick connector
- Ethanol sensor connector
- Ethanol sensor
- Fuel line disconnect tool
⚠️WARNING: Use quick connectors when installing the ethanol sensor! Fire/explosion risk if not used!
⚠️WARNING: Fire/explosion risk from gasoline & vapors. The fuel line is disconnected in this step. Improper installation or routing may result in spilled fuel. Assure that the engine is cold, and that no electrical or other ignition sources are within or adjacent to the working area. Use rags to remove any spilled fuel and dispose in an appropriate sealed container.
⚠️CAUTION: Fuel system is pressurized. Use cleaning rags to avoid fuel spill. On top of this use appropriate personal protect
Overview
- Open the fuel tank cap to release the tank pressure.
- Do not install the ethanol sensor in a location with moving parts or high temperatures.
- Friction caused by engine movement can damage a fuel hose.
- High temperature near exhaust components can cause the fuel hose to melt.
- Do not install the ethanol sensor near high voltage engine components such as ignition coils.
- Please pay attention to the cleanliness of tools and the environment when working with an open fuel system. Clean the connections before opening the fuel lines.
- The fuel hose must be installed without sharp bends. The recommended minimum bending radius is 80 mm (3”). Leave a slight slack in the fuel line, as the engine moves during operation.
- Use the supplied quick connectors and adapters when installing the ethanol sensor.
- Do not use greases or similar lubricants that contain thickeners when installing the fuel hose. Lubricate the O-ring seals of the quick connectors with clean engine oil.
- Do not use greases or other lubricants containing solid particles.
- It is recommended to install the ethanol sensor in the feed line (not to high-pressure line) of the fuel system (the line from the fuel tank/pump to the engine).
Installation Step-by-Step
- Open the fuel cap to release pressure from the fuel tank.
- Locate the engine's fuel line.
- Plan where to place the ethanol sensor keeping in mind that:
- Avoid excessive bending of the fuel line. Use 90-degree quick connectors where needed.
- The sensor is not positioned near moving parts or high-temperature areas.
- The sensor is kept away from high-voltage components such as ignition coils.
- Disconnect the original fuel line.
- If the original fuel line connectors cannot be opened by hand, use the fuel line disconnect tool provided with the package.
- Use rags to protect the engine from fuel spills.
- Prepare the new fuel line assembly with the ethanol sensor.
- You can use the original fuel line or replace it entirely with the fuel hose provided with the package.
- Always use quick connectors when possible.
- Lubricate quick connector O-ring seals with engine oil.
- Install the new fuel line assembly.
- Make sure to use the supplied quick connectors and the hose clamps.
- Make sure that the connectors are locked, and the hose clamps are tightened properly
