Yes — fuel consumption increases when using E85, and this is completely normal.
Ethanol contains less energy per liter than gasoline, so the engine needs more fuel to produce the same power. As a result:
- Expect ~20–30% higher fuel consumption on E85 compared to gasoline
- This is due to fuel properties, not a fault in the eFlexFuel system
⚠️ Note about your vehicle’s fuel consumption display:
Most vehicle consumption meters are calibrated for gasoline. When using E85, the display often shows incorrect (too low) consumption, because it does not account for ethanol’s different energy content.
